Fishing, Cycling, Horse Riding, watersports and even Llama Trekking!

Fishing

Bordered by a small river that is stocked twice a year with Trout, we have fishing right on our doorstep. Add to this our own 2 acre lake just 3.5km up the road, which although stocked, is a leisure fishing environment. WIth depths upto 4.5 meters it can be a challenge, but has been reviewed brilliantly for its scale and fin perfect fish, most of which have never been caught! This year (2018), we are stocking it with 30kg of White Trout, fantastic eating and a further 50kg of Rainbow Trout. Along with the pre-existing Carp ( we believe just to 15lbs, we await someone to catch better!), Tench, Rudd and Roach, it is a beautiful place, suitable to sit and watch the Kingfishers, enjoy a family BBQ or just totally unwind.

The Loir, a beautiful slow-flowing river with Roach, Bleak, Bream Carp, Tench, Zander, Pike and some Catfish, offers anglers some exciting fishing. Just 10 minutes away.

The river fed lake at Marçon is extremely well stocked with fish known at well over 100lbs! Carp, Pike, Roach, Rudd, Tench and Perch are also in abundance and it has many dedicated fishing areas. Across it's 50 hectares (123 acres) there are also dedicated areas for the non fishing members of your group including sailing, swimming (with a man-made beach slides & lifeguard) pedaloes and canoeing. They also have an excellent kitchen with an outdoor eatery whose moules we highly recommend.

Please note that permits are required to fish all these waters but can be purchased locally (€32 for the week or €20 a day). There is also an English version of the website where you can pre-order your licence. http://en.cartedepeche.fr/52-liste-des-cartes.htm  If you wish to pre-order, please contact us first as they are region specific.

Many further well stocked carp lakes and course fishing can be found in Chartre-sur-Loire, just 15 minutes away.

Fishing is also available at La Bruyere near Bouloire some 45 minutes away, a tranquil private 10 acre lake set in 65 acres of woodland. Established in the 16th century, this spring fed lake has depths ranging from 3 to 6 feet. Amongst the mature trees are 15 clearly marked out swims giving ample room to set up your bivvy. Vehicle access is possible to most areas of the lake. La Bruyere contains a very good stock of carp running up to 30+ pounds. In addition to the carp, the lake boasts a good range of coarse fishing including Chub, Perch, Roach, Rudd, Tench, Pike and Catfish. The maximum number of rods is 3. Night fishing is permitted with owners’ consent. Bait is available locally from two nearby tackle shops also there are some super stores in the area of Le Mans that sell a good range of fishing gear.

Cycling

As with the whole of France, the Tours de France regularly comes through our area and even town. Unfortunately not in 2018, but that doesn't stop the whole area being fantastic cycling terrain for leisure and professional cyclists. The "Tours de Sarthe" passed our doorway 7 times in 2016 and has both start and finishing stages in Chateau du Loir, just 3 minutes drive away.

We can provide you with no less than 26 cycle routes all professionally checked and graded to suit your abilities.

For those that have a greater love of off road challenges, the 14000 acre, Fôrét de Bercé has several routes designed to challenge you.

Horse Riding

With several stables nearby, it is hard to recommend one over another.

However, a guest (a highly experienced rider) in 2017 spent time riding at one just 5km from us. They offer the options of going for group or individual rides, through the amazing Fôrét de Bercé. They also offer a Western experience! This guest chose an individual ride out with one of their guides. She came back really impressed. Not only with the guided ride, but also that they had listened to her abilities and had an appropriate level of horse available for her and ensured that the ride was appropriate for her level.

Watersports

From pedaloes, canoeing, sailing and swimming all the way through to Kayaking down the Loir, this is all possible just 15 minutes away. The water sports area at Marçon Lake is a superb facility to advise and assist all levels, including lessons.

Add to this the man-made beach, sectioned, swimming areas and slides and we find many of our guests return there several times during their stay.

With a lovely lake-side kitchen and restaurant (great Moules et frites on a Thursday) and public BBQ areas, there really is days full of entertainment.

Llama Trekking - coming June 2018!

By the Summer of 2018, we have some friends moving to the area. Just a short, 12 minute drive and you are in the middle of woodlands where either we, or they will be able to take you out for a trek with their Llama.

Llamas are frequently used to introduce disabled children and adults to the delights of interaction with animals, being very therapeutic. They are recognised as being great stress busters (it’s called llama karma) so even overworked urban office workers can feel the benefit of spending a few hours with a llama. So whether you are just crazy about animals, or simply love walking in the gorgeous countryside, there is something for everyone.

You don’t ride llamas as they are pack animals, capable of carrying up to 25 kilos in weight. They are quiet, gentle and very inquisitive animals and leading them through the countryside is an unforgettable experience for thousands of people each year. It is a great way to discover the countryside whilst learning more about these incredible animals.

Watch this space for further details of what we feel sure is going to become an attraction in high demand!
